By William Shakespeare / Adapted and Directed by Shana Cooper / Ashland, OR / 2008
In the summer of 2008 we took our unique rehearsal methods to Ashland, Oregon, where members of nth teamed up with actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) to reimagine Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. We transformed a downtown parking lot into an improvised amphitheater with flatbed trucks and hundreds of lawn chairs. The actors spoke and sang Shakespeare into hand-held microphones for a huge local community ages 2 to 70. The audience enjoyed food and drinks in the beds of their trucks as the actors performed original renditions of songs from Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust" to the Beastie Boys' "Girls" and brought new life to Shakespeare's golden comedy. The performance was free and open to the public and began our company's mission to create theater that is accessible to all.
